The purpose of this research is to develop a new computer assisted instruction system for handicapped children by using the robotic technology. The robotics assisted instruction system consists of various kinds of input devices and output devices including the education robots which use the sensor, mechanism and intelligent control technology.At the first year of this research, we developed several types of switch boxes for the easy use of handicapped children, and education programs to educate the ability of recognition.At the second year, we designed and made a unique input/output device, called robotized display monitor ( RDM ). The RDM is a monitor TV which not only displays pictures and characters but also moves itself, according to the multi-sensor information. it has the function of detection of the learner's condition, by using the CCD camera and the ultra-sonic distance sensor. And further the finger position sensing function is provided by adding the infrared photo sensors and touch panel system.By the use of the multi-functional education program developed, and the active display device and the input devices, it is possible to realize the education according to the condition of the handicapped children. The application of a robot hand and other special robotic mechanisms to the education system can be expected.
