1 現代語における否定対極表現用例の収集と分析新聞記事CD-ROMのテクスト化を行った。テクスト化プログラムは希望する研究家に無償で配布している。新聞記事およびその他のCD-ROM、索引類、図書から現代語における否定対極表現、特に「全然」等の副詞類、およびある種の「も」等について用例を収集し、それらの現れの分布について分析した。2 否定対極表現の使用条件・意味特性の精密な記述「全然、めったに」などの否定対極表現に関して、その使用条件を1で知られた用例の分布に関する事実と母国語話者の内省を踏まえて意味論的、語用論的にできるだけ精密に記述した。3 否定対極表現の語用論的特性に関する一般的考察2での記述を踏まえ、2で扱った否定対極表現の語要論的特性を明らかにした。4 過去の用例の収集、分析主に明治期、一部江戸期の資料に関して、否定対極表現の用例を収集しこれを分析するための基礎的資料を作成した。5 要素が否定対極化するメカニズムについての考察4を踏まえ、要素が否定対極化するメカニズムを認知的観点から明らかにするための予備的考察を行った。
