平成30年度は、インドにおける被差別民（ダリト）である清掃人カーストの職業と公衆衛生との関係を明らかにするために、(1) 公衆衛生と清掃人カースト解放運動、(2) 清掃人カーストの労働環境、に焦点を当てた研究を行った。(1) 公衆衛生と清掃人カースト解放運動:　公衆衛生の促進と清掃人カーストの解放を目指すM.K.ガーンディーによる社会組織（NGO）をめぐる歴史について明らかにするために、インド独立以前にNGOにより発行された一次史料収集を行った。また、2014年に開始された全国的な公衆衛生キャンペーンである「クリーン・インディア・ミッション（Clean India Mission）」の、ローカル・レベルでの展開について明らかにするために、同キャンペーンの一環で採用された、ラージャスターン州地方自治体の清掃部門に所属する清掃人に聞き取り調査を行なった。(2) 清掃人カーストの労働環境：　清掃人カーストの労働内容・知識・技術の詳細について明らかにするために、ラージャスターン州東部の小都市における清掃人カーストや、彼らとかかわりのあった地域住民に対して聞き取り調査を行った。また、パンジャーブ州の都市部において、ウッタル・プラデーシュ州やハリヤーナー州等から移り住んできた、あるいは出稼ぎにやってきた清掃人カーストや近隣住民に対しても、労働内容についてのインタビューを行うことで、簡単な予備的調査を行った。
