2022年度は、各地での史料調査を積極的に行った。まず、4月に洲本市立淡路文化史料館で史料調査を行い、議会開設前後の政治家の動向について理解を深めることができた。また、6月には柳川古文書館、九州歴史資料館でも史料調査を行い、『福岡県史　近代史料編　自由民権運動』には所収されていない諸史料を閲覧することができた。さらに、10月には京都府立京都学・歴彩館で公文書や『京都公民会雑誌』の調査を行い、1882年の集会条例改正に関連する史料を確認し、また、帝国議会の会派として誕生した大成会内での京都公民会議員の活動について詳しく見ることができた。そのほか、国立国会図書館憲政資料室で「佐々友房関係文書」を中心とする史料調査を昨年度に引き続き行った。2022年5月には、近代現代日本政治研究フォーラム 2022年度春期研究会において、「明治十年代半ばの政党をめぐる議論と実践：立憲帝政党に着目して」というタイトルで口頭報告を行い有益なフィードバックを得た上で、上述のような史料調査の成果を総合して、2023年3月に東京大学大学院法学政治学研究科に博士学位請求論文「明治中期の政党をめぐる議論と実践：複数性と結合様式に着目して」を提出した。この論文は、政党が複数存在するという状況や、政党が組織を強化するという現象をめぐる当時の多様な議論が、政党の実践に大きな影響を与え、また逆に、実践を通じて理論の側も変容していく様子を、多くの政党が誕生した1880年代初頭から、1890年の帝国議会開設を経て、1894年の日清戦争前までの期間について描いたもので、「帝国議会開設前後の政党の存在性格をめぐる研究」を掲げる本課題の中心的な成果であるといえる。
