In this study, I construct an endogenous fertility model where the fertility rate are affected by the existence of concerns for relative income(motivated by status-seeking motives). Then, I analyze whether or not the introduction of pro-population policy, such as child allowances, can improve the economic welfare. I show that, even under the existence of negative externalities associated with status preferences, pro-population policy may harm the utility of future generations. This result still holds even if some modifications to the assumptions are added.
