项目摘要

Materials Science and Engineering comprises both materials-related basic research and the engineering-oriented development of materials. Research activities of both fields are closely related and include all classes of materials and material development processes. Materials are crucial for innovations. Materials Science and Engineering has therefore a significant influence on the design of a sustainable future. The example of the enormous potential of storage technology for renewable energies illustrates the challenges that can often only be met with knowledge in Materials Science and Engineering. For competitive science, researchers need not only subject-specific information but also, and above all, supporting infrastructure services that accompany the entire research cycle from information and data research to data generation, data analysis, publication of texts and data, and their permanent archiving. In order to support the researchers as comprehensively as possible with reliable information infrastructures that meet their needs, TIB and SLUB have been working together since 2021 on the development and establishment of the Specialized Information Service Materials Science and Engineering (https://www.materials-science.info/) with the following goals: - Central and location-independent access to subject-specific information. This includes, among other things, materials data and related research results, specialist information and subject-specific literature. - Strengthening networking within materials research and materials engineering and expanding the visibility of researchers and their achievements in the heterogeneous research landscape. - Increasing knowledge transfer between science and industry. In the second funding period, the focus will be on increasing the scope of information by substantially expanding the data basis for all services, increasing visibility and use in the specialist community, expanding existing services and adding a service that provides access to specific, distributed equipment and services for materials testing. The FID Materials Science is continuously evaluated and further developed in dialog with the specialist community.
