本年度における研究の進行状況は、以下の通りである。（1）自ら進んで思想改造、すなわち「旧学問」を放棄し「新思想」を獲得した民族学者として、費孝通が少数民族の社会事情や中共の政治統合をいかなる視点で捉えたかを読み取るため、「兄弟民族在貴州」（以下「在貴州」）を中心に彼の著作を読み込んだ。費は漢族と少数民族の分断の原因を民族間の差異ではなく、漢族が主体となって維持してきた「封建統治」に見ている。同時に、費は現地少数民族の経済や習慣にも着目し、漢族から伝播した封建的な慣習が少数民族社会に影響を与え、それが民族内部に不協和音をもたらしていることも示唆している。彼はまた、「在貴州」において社会主義を謙虚に学ぶ態度を強調しながら、辺彊の少数民族地域では政府の代表として、また都市部の読書人には雑誌記事等を通じて、民族政策の宣伝を積極的に担っている。すなわち、地方志や歴史書を引用しつつ、漢族と少数民族との関わりの歴史を語り、それを現在の少数民族の状況と繋げて解釈することで知識人層の読者の関心を喚起し、分断を埋める「懸け橋」の役割を演じようとする姿勢がみられる。この点は今後、学者と行政、また学問の政治的需要との関係についての検証で参考とする。（2）上に述べた具体的な研究対象について分析を行う一方、民族理論・民族問題、文化人類学・社会学におけるエスニシティ研究や、費と同時代の「知識分子」（主に科挙制度廃止後の新教育制度のもとで高等教育を受け、欧米留学経験をもつ「高級知識分子」）の政治的経験に関する先行研究も参照しながら、今後執筆する論考の枠組を模索した。

The concern of the intellectuals is aroused, broken, and buried. This point is the future, scholars, administrative, academic and political needs, and the relationship between them.
