项目摘要

It becomes of great importance to conduct very large-scale numerical calculation in various fields. It is generally said that the computation cost and time is nearly proportional to the square of the solution-space scale.In this research project, we have conducted such large-scale computation in various fields from computational hydrodynamics, computational structure analysis, computational material engineering, and simulation of ship dynamics, some of which are necessary to be conducted in real time for visualization. The following conclusions are drawn.1) Marine traffic simulator for congested waterways is developed. Further, model ship experiment was conducted in a virtual sea area produced by this simulator. The simulator was the server for the virtual marine traffic flow and for the control of the model ship. PCs on board are used to send and receive data such as GPS position data, Gyro ship motion data and command for the model ship such as rudder angle and propeller revolutions. This system is the main result of this project and distributed computation network is fully utilized using Internet and serial link.2) Simulation program for ship capsize was developed. Mathematical model was revised to get more accurate result compared with model ship experiments. Besides, animation program was also developed to show how the ship will capsize. It is very good example of necessity of distributed computing to get faster computation. The program may be useful to understand the capsize phenomena visually and to use as a real-time simulator for ship masters to teach them how to avoid capsizing.3) Life cycle assessment for marine and land transportation was conducted. The environmental effect was compared with marine and land transportation and it is found the effect of marine transportation is a fourth of that of trucks.
