本研究(企画調査)では、まず21世紀における循環型社会構築に向けての各国農村の取り組みの現状を整理・集約してそうした社会のあり方が国や地域によって多様でありうることを確認し、ついで循環型社会に向けての今後について展望して平成15年度に国際シンポジウムを開催することを目的とし、下記の研究活動を行った。1.研究メンバーのこれまでの調査研究経験および文献調査から、世界各地における循環型社会形成に資する先駆的な取り組みを抽出し、それらの具体的内容と意義を要約した。2.循環型社会形成に関する実践的取り組みを行っている世界各地(ドイツ、スロベニア、キューバ、タイ、韓国、香港)の事例調査を行い、平成15年度に企画している国際シンポジウムの講演者・参加者を発掘した。3.国際シンポジウム「多様性の中に循環型社会の未来をさぐる」の実行委員会を組織し、シンポジウムテーマ、基調講演者・一般講演者の選抜・依頼、スポンサー・共催・後援団体への依頼、等の活動を広く行った。4.結果として、平成15年6月27〜29日に神戸大学において、国際シンポジウム「多様性の中に循環型社会の未来をさぐる」を実施することとし、シンポジウム案内のためのサーキュラー、ポスターを作成して、国内外の関係機関および個人に配布した。また、シンポジウム発表講演の梗概集の編集作業も進め、シンポジウム実施に向けた具体的活動体制を敷いた。5.本研究グループで研究会を数度開催し、「循環型」社会」の基本理念に関する合意形成に向けて討論を行った。
