To investigate the processing mechanisms of icons, three researches have done.1.The classification based on the relations between icons and their objects.2.Determination of subjective distances between icons and their objects.3.Determination of reaction times between icons and their objects.Seven main categories selected by 1 were used for 2 and 3 determinations. The names of categories were "superordinate", "impression", "time", "action", "internal component", "location" and "metaphor". Seven categories analysis of variance(ANOVA) were conducted involve 2 and 3. There were significant differences between seven categories both subjective distances and reaction times.Conditions for better understandability depending on categories were as follows.(1)When people can judge the relations between icons and their objects without perceptual simulations like "time", they says that categories are intelligible.(2)When categories have sensibility to touch like "action", they are intelligible.(3)When categories are based on strong contiguity like "internal component", people feel they are understandable.

为了探讨图标的加工机制，我们进行了三个方面的研究：1.基于图标与其客体之间的关系进行分类；2.确定图标与客体之间的主观距离；3.确定图标与客体之间的反应时。类别的名称分别为“上位”、“印象”、“时间”、“行动”、“内部成分”、“位置”和“隐喻”。7个类别的方差分析(ANOVA)包括2和3。7个类别之间的主观距离和反应时都存在显著差异。不同类别的更好的可理解性条件如下：(1)当人们在没有时间等知觉模拟的情况下能够判断图标与其对象之间的关系时，他们认为类别是可理解的。(2)当类别具有像动作一样的触觉敏感性时，他们是可理解的。(3)当类别基于强邻接性的基础上时，人们感觉他们是可以理解的。
