The Japanese Chestnut (Castanea crenata) was one of the important food for the Jomon people. If we want to discuss the chestnut utilization of the Jomon people, it is necessary to use the quantitative data about some characters of modern wild Japanese chesnut.But we did not have such data. So in order to get the date, from 1999 we have investigated the wild chestnut in the secondary forests in Obara-mura in Aichi Prtefecture. This article analyses the annual fluctuation of nut production of wild Japanese Chestnut from the results of the investigation between 1999 and 2003.As a result, it can be considered that every tree of wild chestnut has the marked annual fluctuations of nut production. But the production of each tree does'nt always fluctuate in syncronized with other ones. If anything, every tree tends to fluctuate independently. Therefore it is concluded that we can recognize the annual fluctuation of nut production of the whole area, but it is smaller if the area is relatively broad. So we have no very poor harvest. Due to these characters, the chestnut was very stable food for the Jomon people.

板栗是绳纹人的重要食物之一。如果要探讨绳纹人对板栗的利用，就必须利用现代野生日本板栗某些性状的定量数据，但我们没有这样的数据。为此，从1999年起，我们对爱知县小原村次生林中的野生板栗进行了调查。根据1999 ~ 2003年的调查结果，分析了野生日本栗坚果产量的年际波动，认为每株野生日本栗坚果产量都有明显的年际波动。但是每棵树的产量并不总是与其他树同步波动。如果有的话，每棵树都倾向于独立波动。因此，我们可以认识到整个地区坚果产量的年度波动，但如果面积相对较宽，波动较小。所以我们没有很差的收成。由于这些特性，栗子是绳纹人非常稳定的食物。
