项目摘要

平成6年度は本重点領域研究の最終的なまとめとなる講座「文明と環境」(全15巻)の原稿のとりまとめ最終報告書(「文明と環境」No.12)を作成した。こうした研究成果をとりまとめた結果、文明と環境について以下の主たる事実を指摘できる。1、[文明の画期]地球環境の変動と文明の盛衰にはいくつかの画期がみられる。12000年前、7500年前、5000年前、3000年前、紀元後3世紀、14世紀、17世紀にみられる文明盛衰の画期は地球環境の変動をともなっていたことが明らかとなった。2、[文明の周期性]地球環境の変動にはいくつかの周期性がみられることが明らかとなった。とくに文明の盛衰において重要な周期性は2500-2000年の周期性である。対馬暖流や気候変動にみられる周期性は文明の盛衰に大きな影響を与えたことが明らかとなった。3、[文明の共時性]地球環境の変動と文明の盛衰には共時性があることが明らかとなった。その共時性は、気候変動によって引き起こされたものであることが明らかとなった。4、[文明のアナロジー]地球環境の変動と文明の盛衰には時代を超えた類似性(アナロジー)が認められることが明らかとなった。ミケ-ネ文明の興亡、イ-スター島の興亡、17世紀のイギリス文明の興亡などには自然とのかかわりにおいていくつかの類似性があることが発見された。5、[現代文明の危機]人類の文明の盛衰は地球環境とのかかわりにおいて同じ過ちを何度もくりかえしていることが明らかとなった。このまま現代文明が大量生産・大量消費のアメリカ型文明を維持すれば、世界人口が80-100億に達する2020-2050年には現代文明は崩壊するという予測を得た。6、[自然への畏敬の念]現代文明の危機を回避し、自然と人間が共存可能な文明の潮流を創造するためには近代文明にかわる新たな再生と循環それに共生をキーワードにしたあらたな文明の潮流を創造することが必要であることを指摘した。そのためには欲望のコントロールをいかに実施するかが鍵となる。それには自然への畏敬の念の復活など多神教の世界の理念に学ぶことが多いことなどが明らかとなった。
