本年度の研究計画調書に記した研究計画概要に従い,平成3年度から開始している「データベースにおける知識獲得」の研究を推進した.特に,以下の主要な4テーマを中心として,8名で構成されている研究班のメンバーが理論および応用の両面より本テーマに関する最終年度としての研究を行った.1.対象メディアの多様化にともなう研究(1)マルチメディア情報の知識ベース化(2)知識ベースの柔構造化2.対象データの大量化にともなう研究(3)データベースからの知識獲得(4)知識ベースにおける推論機構の効率化各々のテーマに関して,班内の2名のメンバーが中心的に研究活動を展開した.(1)と(2)のテーマに関しては,本研究の当初から推進しているオブジェクト指向のパラダイムを採用した知識表現,マルチメディアデータベースモデルの研究が大幅に進展した.(3)のテーマについては,知識獲得の対象データベースを関係データベースからオブジェクト指向データベースおよびアクティブデータベースへと拡張した.また,(4)のテーマに関しては,これまでに理論的な研究成果として提案したいくつかのアルゴリズムの性能を計算実験により評価し,諸特性を明らかにした.本年度の研究班の主な研究会活動としては,本班独自および他の班との合同研究会を開催するとともに,シンポジウム「知識科学の最前線」での研究発表,本重点領域研究「知識科学」全体会での研究発表などにおいて,得られた研究成果の公表を行った.
