Patterns of population mobility and internal migration in Australia

This project will 1) improve understanding of the way internal migration is changing the shape of human settlement in Australia: promoting coastal growth, depopulating the inland, reshaping cities, towns and regions; 2) provide a better foundation on which to predict future distribution patterns of population groups such as the baby-boomers and understand the future population dynamics of individual communities; 3) enhance the basis for planning and policy decisions regarding provision of services and facilities at the regional and local level to ensure equitable, efficient outcomes.
