项目摘要

平成2年度には,次のような研究を行った。1.四つ仮名方言の代表として、鹿児島県枕崎市、高知県中村市、同安芸市に臨地調査を行い,その方言の代表的な四つ仮名の発音を各地点それぞれ3名の話者についてDAT録音し、ビデオに収録した。○ 枕崎市では、65歳以上の生え抜きの話者20名について,謎々式の調査法で発音と仮名の意識を調査した。また,各話者について四つ仮名についての知識、関心、印象を合わせて聞いた。その結果、四つ仮名に関する関心の高さは、高知県の2地点の方が枕崎市より高く、高知県の中では安芸市よりも中村市の方が高かった。しかし、個人差はあるが、四つ仮名の対立が最も明瞭に保たれている地点は、枕崎市である。ついで、中村市、安芸市の順である。安芸市が最も共通語化が進んでいる。2.三つ仮名方言の代表としては、大分県竹田市で、65歳以上の老年層20名の調査を実施した。1969年『九州方言の基礎的研究』によれば、この地域は三つ仮名方言の地域であるとされている。今回の調査では三つ仮名の明瞭な対立は失われ、微かにある三つ仮名の名残を残す程度であった。3.四つ仮名の消失の過程には3地点に共通する傾向がある。また、調査の場面によっても四つ仮名の現れかたは異なる。例えば、謎々式の調査では四つ仮名の対立が明瞭に保たれていた話者が、DAT録音のために読む調査になるとその対立が曖昧になる例や、その反対に謎々式ではジとヂの区別が曖昧な話者が、読む調査になると四つ仮名の対立が明瞭になる例が観察された。四つ仮名の対立には、仮名文字がその対立を支えるのに大きな影響力を持っている。
