本重点領域研究も2年目に入り、各研究班は人文、社会、自然の多くの研究領域に於いてそれぞれに成果を挙げている。各班の研究が同一の方向性を持ち、共同研究として有意義な成果を挙げるために、総括班としては事務処理、研究会の設営等の実務面と、ビジョンの提言や哲学の考察といった研究面の両面で活動を続ける必要があった。実務面では、原則として各月1回の研究サロンを9回、研究懇談会を10回、公開シンポジウムを1回、三日間にわたる合同研究報告会(東京)及び合宿方式での研究成果報告会(伊豆高原)を各1回開催した。全体の活動を通じて、研究参加者全員の関心を共通の方向へ向けるという当初の目的は達成されたものと思われる。研究面では、「自然資源・環境制約と経済福祉の向上を両立させる科学技術文明の構想」という研究発足時からの各班の共通問題意識をより明確にするため、この問題に対する基本的な姿勢を確立すべく討論を繰り返した。その結果、(1)科学技術の進歩を積極的に推進する(2)エネルギ-利用の効率化を図る(3)経済社会システムを前提にして計画出来る20〜30年間については積極的に成長政策を取る(4)人類文明の歴史及び未来の発展に対して肯定的・客観的である、の四つを柱とした積極主義的立場から高度技術社会に対する展望を広げてゆくことにした。更に、この積極主義的な立場を、資源・環境制約との調和という方向性を堅持しながら現実化するには、具体的にどのような政治過程の中で実現すべきかーこれが、重点領域研究第三年度へ向けて残された我々の課題である。

In this key field, the research program for the past two years has focused on the humanities, society, and nature. The research of each class should be carried out in the same direction, the joint research should be meaningful, the results should be comprehensive, the work should be handled, the research meeting should be set up, and the activities should be carried out in the same direction. 1 month for research sessions, 1 month for principle sessions, 10 sessions for research symposiums, 1 session for open sessions, 1 session for contract research sessions (Tokyo), and 1 session for research results sessions (Izu Plateau). All activities are conducted in a common direction, and all participants are concerned about achieving their original goals. Research area: "Natural resources, environmental constraints, social well-being, scientific and technological civilization," research development, awareness of common problems of all classes, clear understanding of the basic posture of these problems, establishment of discussions, etc. The results are as follows: (1) The progress of science and technology is actively promoted;(2) The efficiency of production-utilization is improved;(3) The social system is planned to be developed in the next 20 to 30 years;(4) The history of human civilization and its future development are related to the positive development of customers. The four pillars of activism are from the perspective of a highly technical society In addition, the proactive stance, resource and environmental constraints, and the direction of the development of the country should be adhered to. In addition, the specific political process should be implemented. In the third year, the research on key areas should be carried out.
