談話は無関係な文の単なる集まりではなく,談話中の文は互いに何らかのつながりを持っている.本研究では,この談話のつながりを明示する表層的な情報である語彙的結束性を用いて,談話を首尾一貫した談話の単位である意味段落に分割する手法について述べる.意味段落は,談話の構造を解析する時の基本単位でもあり,段落分割は,談話の構造解析の第1ステップと考えられる.語彙的結束性を表す語彙的連鎖は,談話中の互いに関連する語の連鎖であり,連鎖が存在する談話の部分の意味的まとまりを反映していると考えられるので,語彙的連鎖を用いて談話を意味段落に分割するための尺度を計算することができる.本研究では,語彙的連鎖の開始・終了位置および,ギャップの位置から,段落境界を推定する手法について述べ,国語の現代文の問題集の段落分割の問題に対して実際に段落分割の実験を行う.
