第一原理量子シミュレーションに基づいて新機能材料を探索する計算機ナノマテリアルデザイン手法を開発した。開発した方法を用いて幅広い物質系について有限温度での磁性を定量的に予測し、応用上重要かつ急務の希薄磁性半導体(DMSと略記)の正確なマテリアルデザインを行った。とくに、希薄磁性半導体の相分離現象について第一原理から予測し、その現象を積極的に用いた半導体スピントロニクス材料設計を行い、デザインの実証実験を行った。
