项目摘要

5年計画の最終年度にあたる本年は、まず、環境と資源との関連を実際に見て歩く海外研修シリーズの第3回目として、メラネシアにおける現地研修を行った。過去に乾燥草原地帯、温帯高山地帯で行った研修では、それぞれの気候および自然環境の特性に合わせたサブシステンスや食糧資源の利用を実際に見学し、歩くことで、各参加者のフィールドにおける資源利用を考え直す刺激的な成果があがった。最終回の今回は、島嶼環境をもつニューカレドニアにおいて研修を行った。ニューカレドニアは、広大なオセアニアの島嶼域へと人類が拡散した初期に拡散居住された島で、東南アジアから持ち込んだ土器文化が最も栄え、ラピタ土器というユニークな文様土器の名前が由来する遺跡のある島でもある。現地では、ラピタ遺跡の踏査を行い、土器をはじめとする遺物の包含層と居住立地を実見することで、海洋環境における居住特性を観察した。ニューカレドニア博物館ではC.Sand博士から、先史時期から現代にかけてのニューカレドニアにおける資源利用の特性や変容過程についてスライドを用いた講義を受け、理解を深めることができた。最後に、本島の東に位置するウヴェア島へ移動し、火山島である本島とは異なるサンゴ島特有の自然環境や資源分布・利用などを踏査した。12月には総括班主催の国際シンポジウムが行われ、全員が出席の元、竹沢尚一郎が班を代表して発表を行った。最後に、各自が5年間の成果をまとめて論文を執筆し、2007年10月に『生態資源と象徴化』(資源人類学シリーズ第7巻)として弘文堂から出版される予定である。
