项目摘要

隠修士アントニウスは、「聖アントニウスの火」と呼ばれる病に対する守護聖人として、中世に熱狂的な崇敬を集めた。この現象の背景には、11 世紀末に結成された聖アントニウス律修道参事会の活躍がある。「イーゼンハイム祭壇画」に代表されるように、本参事会は重要な美術作例を生み出してきたが、その制作においては常に、聖アントニウス伝の図像サイクルの影響があった。本研究計画は、先行研究では体系的に考察されてこなかった、本聖人伝の図像サイクルについて、聖アントニウス崇敬が特に篤かった旧サヴォワ侯国領を中心に、作例を網羅し図像系統を明らかにすることで、聖アントニウス会美術研究の基盤を築くことを目的とする。初年度の成果は以下のとおりである。①一連の図像サイクル伝播の源泉と考えられる、1424 年に制作された、写本『聖アントニウス伝』（Cod. 1、マルタ国立図書館）の分析を行い、図像主題をリスト化した。今後、このリストを英語とドイツ語に翻訳していく。②ピエモンテ地方の15～16世紀初頭の聖堂壁画の作例について、8～9月にかけて、南部を中心に現地調査を行った。事前に報告者が把握していなかった作例が現地調査によって明らかとなり、ピエモンテの中世末期の聖堂壁画作例は、計画申請以前に予想していたよりも多いと考えられる。今後の研究計画の見直しが必要である。③ピエモンテを旅した、アントニウス会士ジャン・ドゥ・モンシェニュの訪問記を、シュナイダー氏らと共に、文書から書き起こし、ドイツ語へと翻訳した。これは『Antoniter Forum』誌・資料編として編纂中であり、来年出版予定である。本研究計画は、報告者の日本学術振興会特別研究員RPD採用に伴い、2016年度で中断され、2017年度特別研究員奨励費「アルプス地域と聖アントニウス崇敬－聖アントニウス伝図像サイクルの考察から」へと継続される。
