脊髄損傷後に歩行機能を再獲得するためには、効率よく歩行に関わる神経回路網を活動させて再学習させる必要がある。そこで著者は、脚部を歩行様に受動的に動かすことによって生じる脚部感覚情報が、歩行に関わる脊髄神経回路網を活動させることができるのかについて検討した。その結果、歩行に関連する感覚情報のうち荷重に関連する情報がこれらの神経回路駆動にとって重要であることが明らかとなった。この結果は、新たな歩行リハビリテーション法の開発に関して,重要な基礎データになると考えられた。
