项目摘要

今年度は、主に明治期における軍事医療関係史料の収集と分析を中心に研究を進めた。特にこれまで活用されてこなかった日本各地に存在する軍医個人史料の発掘に力を入れた。収集した軍医個人史料は階級の低い軍医や上長官軍医のものなど、幅広く集めることができたため、明治期における日本陸軍衛生部の様相を様々な角度から検証することが可能であった。筆者は、収集した軍医個人史料をもとに、明治期における日本陸軍衛生部の補充・教育制度について検討した。日本陸軍衛生部の補充・教育制度に関する先行研究は、主に制度の変遷について丹念に整理してきた。しかし、制度下における軍医の具体的な行動や日本社会における医師の存在形態とキャリアの在り方などとすり合わせて日本陸軍衛生部の補充・教育制度を構造的に把握する試みはなされてこなかった。このため筆者は、収集した軍医個人史料を分析し、一般医師たちがなぜ日本陸軍衛生部に出仕したのか、制度下の軍医たちはどのような感情のもとで勤務していたのかなど、社会史的観点から日本陸軍衛生部の補充・教育制度について捉えなおし、制度が維持し得た背景について究明した。この結果、医師たちは、衛生部を学習費用が不要な遊学先とする認識を共有しつつ、各個人が保有する自己実現欲‐医学研究欲、愛国心、社会階層移動欲、徴兵回避‐を満たすために日本陸軍衛生部に出仕していたことを明らかにした。また、制度下の軍医たちは（とりわけ日清戦争以降）、勤務を通じて医師としての実力とキャリアを向上させられる点で自己の医師としての欲求を満たすことができ、そうした成長欲が衛生部の近代化を実現することになった重要な要素であったことを明らかにした。本研究は２０２２年１０月２２日に専修大学歴史学会大会で報告し、『専修史学』（７４）に「明治期日本陸軍衛生部の補充・教育制度の社会史」として発表することができた。

The author analyzes the personal historical data of military doctors, general doctors, military doctors under the Japanese Army Health Ministry, emotional services under the system, social history, supplement of the Japanese Army Health Ministry, education system, system maintenance background, etc. As a result, the Ministry of Health has a common understanding of the cost of study, and each person has a desire to present medical research, patriotism, social class mobility, and avoidance of military personnel. In the past, the Ministry of Health has made great efforts to improve the quality of its medical services. This study was presented at the Conference of the Society for the History of Universities on October 22, 2022, in the report entitled "History of the History of the University"(74),"Supplement to the Ministry of Health of the Japanese Army during the Meiji Period."
