本研究の目的は, 文脈情報処理のために必要な知識構造と処理機構を明らかにすることである. このため次のような視点から基礎的研究を行なった.1.人間は与えられた言語表現を内部でいったんメンタルイメージになおしてから推論を行なっているのではないかという作業仮説に基づいて, 空間的シーンに関する文章の深い理解を行なうシステムの設計を行い, システムの一部を試作した. また, 統語, 意味, 文脈のレベルの異なる情報を統合して自然言語理解の計算モデルを実現するための基礎的考察とシステムの試作を行なった. (堂下修司)2.生成と理解の両側面から, 文脈処理の計算モデルの研究を行なった. 生成からは, 文章全体の論旨展開の構造を表示する伝達目的構造(CGS)と呼ぶ構造を設定し, 文章の修辞的構造(RST)がどの様に選択されるかの計算機モデルを作成した. 理解の側面からは, 新聞社説を対象にして, 修辞的構造と相補的な関係を持つ話題推移の構造を表層の言語表現から抽出するアルゴリズムを作成し, 計算機実験によって有効性を確認した. (辻井潤一)3.指示的な名詞句の取り扱いの問題に取り組んだ. 方法としては, モンタギュー文法的な「内包オブジェクト」と「外延オブジェクト」という概念を「名詞句の意味表現」「指示対象」として導入した. また, 「指示対象」の範囲を狭めるために, 「ユーザモデル」「文脈」「センター」などの指示対象の集合を定義し, 対話の流れにしたがって, これらの集合の要素が追加・削除されるモデルを考案し, システムを一部試作した. (米澤明憲)4.対話における知識の導入の方法と導入された知識の管理方法に関して, 日本語はどの様な性質をしているかを韓国語・英語との比較によって明らかにした. (田窪行則)
