本研究では、従来別々に探求されてきた、アルゴリズムや論理に基づく記号処理方式と、距離尺度に基づく感覚的・概念的パターン処理方式の相互の関連性を追及し、組合せ方を探求し、両者を融合することにより、新しい統合的な知能情報処理のパラダイムを形成することを目的とする。その、典型的・代表的例として、音声・言語・概念の統合的理解を目指して、2回の研究会により下記のような具体的研究を行った。1.A^*探索法により、会話音声認識における非決性を一般的に取り扱った(堂下・板倉) 2.音声認識における単語予測を対話中の談話目標や話題の解析により行った(新美) 3.神経回路モデルにより、パターン情報処理を行う方式を研究した(福島) 4.情報理論的に音声情報源をモデル化し、認識系を設計した(中川) 5.超高速のLRパージングアルゴリズムを、先祖表を用いて開発した(田中) 6.心的モデルに基づいて談話構造を生成した(岡田) 7.日本語における計量句の扱いを、分析的に論じた(郡司) 8.音声対話過程を、話者間の相互作用としてモデル化した(白井・藤崎) 9.音声対話における実世界の状況の依存に性について分析し、処理方式を検討した(安西) 10.知識処理の立場から、対話を管理するモデルを提案し、システムを作成した(溝口) 11.対話をマルチェージェントシステムとして捉え、分散知識ベースシステムの立場から分析し全体像を捉えた(西田) 12.対話コーパスの構築に向けて討議し、すでに開発されているものについて、グループ共通資源として購入した(全員)以上により、記号処理とパターン処理を結合することにより音声対話系に対して、音声・言語・概念を系統的かつ一体的に扱う方式を探求した。

Japanese Language System Design (Nakagawa) 8. Sound System Design (Tanaka) 9. Analysis and discussion of the dependence of sound and voice on the state of the world 10. Position and management of knowledge processing 11. Discussion and discussion of voice and voice on the state of the world 12.
