The objective of this project is to apply additive manufacturing methods to fabricate metallic programmable mechanical metamaterials (PMM) and understand the influence of hierarchical design and microstructures of materials on the fatigue resistance of such metamaterials. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop an integrated experimental and modeling platform that significantly improve our understanding on the fundamental mechanisms associated with the fatigue resistance of metallic programmable mechanical metamaterials (PMM) for various applications.
