今年度(平成10年度)は,手話単語の記憶過程(符号化と検索)に影響を及ぼす要因を探索的に明らかにするため,手話単語の属性を測定し,数値化するための調査と,調査結果の妥当性を検証するための実験とを行った。調査では,手話学習の経験がない大学生を被調査者とし,予備調査に基づいて選定した手話基本単語100個について,手話単語の表現課題(表現容易性の測定)と手話単語のイメージ性評定課題(イメージ性の測定)の2課題をこの順序で設定した。手話単語の表現課題では,手話動作を視覚提示して符号化させ,後にそれを再生させて,各単語の再生成績を2点満点で採点することにより表現容易性を数値化した。手話単語のイメージ性評定課題では,視覚提示された手話動作から,対提示される日本語単語(意味)をどのくらいイメージできるかを7段階で評定させ,イメージ性を数値化した。その結果,表現容易性とイメージ性の相関は低く,2つが独立した属性であることが示唆された。また手話単語のイメージ性と,小川・稲村(1974)における音声言語としての日本語単語のイメージ性との相関が低いことから,手話言語のイメージ性と音声言語のイメージ性には質的な差異があると推測された。次に実験では,手話学習の経験がない(先の調査には不参加の)大学生を被験者とし,表現容易性とイメージ性の高低を操作して,20個の手話単語を日本語単語との対連合学習で符号化させ,後に日本語単語を手がかりにして手話動作を再生させる課題を設定した。その結果,表現容易性の高い方が,またイメージ性の高い方が,それぞれ記憶成績が良く,2つの属性が独立して手話単語の記憶過程に影響を及ぼすことが明らかとなった。調査結果の妥当性が高いことが示唆された。なお,これら調査・実験の結果については,日本心理学会第63回大会(平成11年9月:中京大学)で口頭発表する予定である。
