研究成果は、特殊教育シソーラスと特殊教育情報検索システムの2つに分けられる。特殊教育シソーラスについては、学術用語を主体に、約9,000語を基本用語として特殊教育関係辞書・事典類より選定し研究開発を進め、昭和59年度には約3,200語に集約し、「特殊教育シソーラス作成のための資料(中間報告)」として経過報告書を刊行した。更に、この中間報告書を添えて、特殊教育現場における教育実践にかかわる重要な用語に関する調査を特殊教育諸学校等の関係機関に依頼した。この調査結果にもとづき、研究を進めて素棄を作成し、更に協議を重ね、1,302語の用語を樹構造として体系化した「特殊教育シソーラス1985年版」を開発した。特殊教育情報検索システムについては、国立特殊教育総合研究所の施設・設備の有効利用と人的・時間的労力の最小化を図り最大の効果を上げるために、日本語(漢字)処理が可能な対話型汎用情報検索システム"FACOM OSIV/FAIRS-1(V10)"を基本とし、必要な諸機能を追加開発した。すなわち、「特殊教育情報検索システム」の基本設計をもとに、詳細設計、プログラミングおよびテストデータベースを作成した。運用テストの後、その有効性を確認し、特殊教育情報検索システム(SEIRS)(Special Education Intornation Retrieval System)を構築した。なお、書誌データの入力項目は、文献番号、著者名、著者所層機関等24件、検索項目は入力項目と同じで24件、出力項目は、入力項目のうち登録年月日、作成機関、機関番号を除いた21件である。
