项目摘要

(1)研究会活動について62年度は研究計画の最後の年度にあたり, 主として研究報告書の作成に重点をおいた. 62年7月21日〜23日の3日間に第6回研究会を開催し, 5つの研究発表を行なった.これにより, 研究会における研究発表は合計28となり, 研究会参加者全員, これまでの研究会活動に満足し, 年度末の研究報告書完成にむけて努力する旨, 意見の一致をみた. 猶, これまでに研究発表された内訳は, 教育の機会均等に関する研究7件, エクセレンス追求関係18件, 両者に関係するもの3件である. 続いて10月4日の教育史学会第2日目に, 学会参加者の内, 科研に参加している人々が集まった.ここでは今回のアメリカ教育史研究会の研究テーマに関心のある方々が7名新たに参加され, 科研費が本年度でなくなった後も, アメリカ教育史研究を継続発展させていくことが確認された.(2)研究報告書体成について,研究報告書は研究分担者11名, 研究協力者6名計17名が執筆することになり, エクセレンス関係論文6件, イクォリティ関係論文7件, 両者に関係する論文4件となる. 170頁前後の報告書が完成間近となっている.(3)新しい研究成果これまでの研究で, アメリカ人は教育について相反する二つの面の相克にゆれ動かされている点がわかった. 一つは平等主義の達成によるアメリカ人としての共通性に対する白負, 他の一つは, 平等化の不幸な結果としての凡庸性に悩むという2面性である. 最近のアメリカ教育は後者の凡庸的傾向が一段と強まり, アメリカの伝統的信条である競争の機会の均等から結果の平等へと走り, 著しく競争力をなくしてしまった. Nation at Risk以降の一連の努力は, かかる状況の打開にあった.
