本研究は、昭和60年度と61年度の2か年計画で、近代日本(幕末期から明治中期まで)における農業・工業・商業の啓蒙書について、その出版状況を調査してそのリストを作成するとともに、それの刊行状況の全般的傾向や出版物の果たした啓蒙的・教育的意義などを考察することを目的としている。本年度は、(1)前年度に続いて出版物の調査と文献リストの作成作業を継続するとともに、(2)啓蒙書出版の歴史的意義についての考察を行なった。上記(1)の研究では,主として東京を中心にして、国立国会図書館,国立公文書館,東京大学総合図書館,東書文庫などで調査を進めた。その結果、前年度の調査分を含めて、およそ1500件(農業600件,工業400件,商業500件)の刊行物(教科書,往来物,報告書などを含む)を確認することができた。それらの書名,著者,体裁,出版者,内容梗概,所在箇所などを整理して、リストを作成中である。その中の一部は『広島大学教育学部紀要』に発表しているし、近く完全なリストを作成した暁には、学術書として刊行する予定である。上記(2)の研究については、これまでに部分的な研究成果を発表してきた。例えば、本年度の『広島大学教育学部紀要』に発表した「明治初年における工業啓蒙書の成立とその教育史的意義」においては、明治1年から明治10年までに刊行された100件の工業啓蒙書の内容を分析し、出版による啓蒙の意義とそれが学校教育とどのように関係するかを明らかにした。概して言えば、近代日本の産業啓蒙書は、国民の普通教育と人材養成のための専門教育との緊密な関係のもとで、啓蒙的役割を果たしたことを明らかにした。上記の出版物リストと同時に、この歴史的考察を入れ込んだ本格的な研究書として刊行する予定である。
