A study on a method for ddiagnosing arteriosclerosis by means of pulse wave velocity

观察有降低动脉顺应性的疾病（患者）与无降低动脉顺应性疾病（正常人）的动脉脉搏波速度（PWV）的差异。首先，研究了可能影响PWV的生理因素。有统计学意义的因素是年龄、收缩压和舒张压。其次，通过多元回归分析得到一个可以通过上述因素预测PWV的线性预测函数，并将该函数计算的值从实测PWV中减去。最后，将这些正常人的残差与各疾病类别患者的残差进行比较，并对所有受试者的残差与各血脂（即总胆固醇、磷脂、甘油三酯和β -脂蛋白）的测量值进行相关系数检验。因此，正常与患者的PWV无显著差异，PWV与血脂水平无显著相关性。

Difference of arterial pulse wave velocity (PWV) between patients with diseases that might decrease the arterial compliance (patient) and subjects without those diseases (normals) was examined. First, physiological factors that might influence PWV were examined. The statistically significant factors were age, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure. Second, a linear predicting function that could predict PWV by means of the above mentioned factors was obtained by multiple regression analysis, and the values computed by this function were subtracted from the measured PWVs. Finally, these residuals of the normals were compared with those of the patients in each disease category, and a correlation coefficient between the residuals and the measurements of each serum lipids, i.e., total cholesterol, phospholipid, triglyceride, and beta-lipoprotein was examined for all the subjects. Consequently, no significant difference was found between PWVs of the normals and those of the patients, and no significant correlation was obtained between PWV and each of serum lipid levels.
