项目摘要

高度情報化社会においては、従来よりもより適切な数学教育を工学系学生に施す必要がある。また、コンピュータをはじめとする教育機器の進歩、新しい教育道具の出現などの影響で、数学教育の内容も教授方法も変化せざるを得ない。本研究の目的は、工学系の学生に対する数学教育はいかなる目的意識でなすべきか、新時代における工学部学生に対する数学教育は、如何なる内容を、如何なる方法で行うべきかを明らかにすることであった。具体的には、研究代表者および分担者が神戸に於て1回、福岡に於て2回(各2日間)研究集会を開き、わが国および外国の実情の把握から始め、応用数学教育とはいかにあるべきか、特に、教えるべきことは本質的には何であるのか、工学系の学生に対する数学教育の目的は何か、数学と工学との関係の整理はいかにあるべきかをまず論じた。次に、既存のカリキュラムの問題点を洗いだし、整理すべき科目、追加すべき科目について真剣な討論を行った。また、新しい教育方法、特に、コンピュータを利用した教育の利点と問題点、効果的な用い方、用いるときの注意などについて議論した。さらに、今後の応用数学教育について、応用数学教育に関する情報化、パッケージ化などいかにすべきか、応用数学者の育成はどういう機関で行うのが最も良いかについて意見を交換した。最後に、各人が自己の意見をまとめて、メモを作成した。それに、研究代表者が「まとめ」をつけて、数十ページに及ぶ報告書を作成し、現在印刷中である。これは今後、この分野で大いに参考になるものと自負している。その概要を、ITU国際学会で発表する予定である。欧米に比べ、この種の研究はわが国では従来あまり為されなかった。科研総合研究Aによる更に大規模な研究を行う必要があろう。
