The following 3 projects have been achieved:1. US-Japn workshop on Recent Progress in the Production of Biologically Active Materials in Animal Cells was held at East/West Center, Honolulu, Howaii on March 2-4, 1990. Twenty four (12 each from both countries) participants presented and discussed on the following topics, a) Establishment of new expression vector systems. b) Molecular mechanisms of protein secresion c) Functional structure of proteins d) Design of protein molecules e) Molecular mechanisms of gene expression f) Signal transduction.2. We visited CNRS in Prais and discussed future collaborative research system and scientific fields with Dr. Stuyck-Taillandier, Dr. Rieu, Dr. Berthillier, Ms. Aubujealt, Dr. Volfin and Dr. Prdo. We also visited CNRS Institutes in Strasbourg and Marseille.3. Five young investigators (Drs. K. Ishikawa, I. Kubo, M. Yoshida, A. Tsuchiya, and Y. Nishimura) visited several Institutes and Universities in the USA, such as Univ. Los Angeles, Salk Inst.,MIT,Univ. California, DNAX Inst., Harvard Univ. and Cold Spring Harvor Inst. and made collaborative works.
