本研究は、我が国におけるセレン・テルル化学の第一線で活躍する研究者が、研究情報の交換、研究調査を協力して行ない、1991年に日本での開催が予定されている「第6回セレン・テルル化学国際会議」の開催に向けての必要な準備を行なうとともに、我が国のセレン・テルル化学およびその応用面の研究を飛躍的に進展させるため、研究者の組織化を目的とした。本研究では、セレン・テルルの化学に関し、重要な4つの課題「(1)セレンの化学とセレンを含む機能材料に関する研究」「(2)テルルの化学とテルルを含む機能材料に関する研究」「(3)セレン・テルルの生化学と生理学に関する研究」「(4)セレン・テルルを用いる有機超伝導体に関する研究」を設定し、各課題ごとに数名の研究者からなる検討班を組織した。各班においては、それぞれの専門分野での研究調査、情報収集を分担するとともに、密接な情報交換を行ない、各課題毎の国内外の研究状況について討議した。これら、各班の活動に加え、11月に全体会議を開催した。全体会議では、班員全員による最新の研究成果の発表を行ない、セレン・テルル化学の世界的動向と、各分野における我が国の進むべき方向について検討した。これらの資料を基に、上記国際会議の企画を行ない、1991年7月8〜13日の6日間、大阪国際交流センタ-において開催することを決定した。また、第6回セレン・テルル化学国際会議組織委員会を発足させるとともに、そのテ-マとして反応、合成、構造、理論、生化学、機能材料、その他の7つを設定した。本国際会議は、海外12名、国内2名、計14名の精力的な研究者による特別講演、ならびに一般講演、ポスタ-セッションよりなり、全参加者200名程度を予想している。また、本会議のファ-ストサ-キュラを作成し、国内外に配布した。
