日本各地には、従来、一型アクセント・無アクセント・崩壊アクセントなどと呼ばれてきたアクセントの型の区別をもたない方言があり、それは型の区別をもつ明瞭アクセントが通時的な変化を経て現状のような姿を呈しているとする解釈が有力である。本研究では、アクセントの型の区別をもたないこれらの地域の方言を無型アクセント地域ととらえ、単語アクセントが非弁別的であるがゆえに、かえってイントネ-ション上の規則性ないし類型性が見いだせるのではないかという仮説のもとに、方言におけるイントネ-ション分析の対象とした。無型アクセント地域のうちでも、非連続的な比較的狭い地域という点で共通し、かつあい隔たった地域である北陸無型地域(福井県福井市)と四国無型地域(愛媛県大洲市)において、若年層・壮年層・老年層の三層にわたって、多量の自然談話をDAT録音によって収録した。また、各種の表現類型を組織的に整えた文例、及び各種の短い文章のテクスト例を各年層の話者に発話してもらい、DAT録音によって収録した。これらのデ-タによって、北陸無型と四国無型との客観的な比較が可能となっている。さらに、この二つの無型地域のイントネ-ションに対して、尾高一型アクセント地域のイントネ-ションを比較対照する意図のもとに、ほぼ同様の調査を宮崎県宮崎市で行った。研究作業はまだ中途であるが、二つの無型地域と尾高一型地域とで、類似の一本調子調が認められるなどの共通性もある。また、無型地域相互間にも共通性と相違性が認められる。今後、三つの地域の談話資料のテクストを公表し、さまざまな文例にもとづくイントネ-ションパタンをもとに分布を進めたい。特殊なイントネ-ションについては、音響学的な手法によるイントネ-ションパタンの抽出法もとり入れることにより、一層客観的なイントネ-ション研究を推進したい。
