本研究の目的は、現在の世界資本市場における資金循環の在り方を、日本の金融システムの機能との関連で分析することであった。研究の成果を要約すると、次のようになる。(1)理論的な分析としては、金融市場におけるいわゆるエージェンシー問題の構造を分析した。この分析は、資金循環の効率性がどの様な条件のもとで損われるか、また資金循環の効率性と回復・維持するためにはどの様な処置が必要かを考察するものである。本来の研究目的としては、国際資本市場とのコンテッキストで以上の問題を検討する予定であったが、今回の研究では分析の対象は主として国内金融に限定された。この際、金融取引に関連する情報の生産にとくに分析の重点が置かれた。われわれの研究では、金融取引に伴う「情報の不完全性」が、資金循環の効率性を妨げる重要な要因と考えられるからである。(2)また、金融市場の機能をより具体的に考察するため日本及びアメリカの資本市場の比較が暫定的な形で行なわれた。とくに資本市場における情報生産との関連で日本のメインバンク制度を詳細に分析した。われわれの研究では、メインバンク制度の最も重要な機能は銀行と借手企業との長期取引関係を通じる情報生産なのである。この機能が、日本の資本市場の本質を規定している。(これらの研究は堀内昭義(1989年3月)にまとめられている)(3)日本の資本輸出国としての位置は、いまや非常に重要であるが、にもかかわらず、日本の資本市場には弱点が存在する。このことは、日本企業が国際資本市場において活発に(社債等を発行して)資金調達しているという事実に端的に示されている。われわれは、日本の資本市場の問題点をも分析した。(これは、論文Horiuchi(1988)にまとめられている)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between capital circulation in the world capital market and the function of Japanese financial system.
