国際学術連合は地球圏ー生物圏国際協同研究計画(IGBP)ー地球変化の研究ーを1990年から10年計画で実施することを決め,1990年9月パリで開かれた第二回IGBP科学諮問委員会で(1)The international Global Atomospheric Chemistry Project(IGAC),(2)Joint Global Ocean Flux Study(JGOFS),(3)Biospheric Aspects of the Hydrogical Cycle(BAHC),(4)Global Change and Terestsial Ecosystern(GCTE),(5)Past Global Change(PAGES)の5つの課題を実施することを決めた。わが国でもこれらの課題を考慮しつつ日本の研究課題を検討し,最終的に(1)大気微量成分の変動および生物圏との交換(2)海岸における物質循環と生物生産(3)陸上生物群集への気候変化の影響(4)大気圏・水圏・陸圏と生物圏の相互作用を考慮した気候解析とモデリング(5)環境変化のモニタリング(6)古環境の変遷,(7)地球環境と人間活動の相互作用の7研究領域で研究を進めることとし,研究内容とその組織について検討し,最終案を作成後,具体的に研究を進めることとなった。また,IGBPから送付された資料を印刷し,関係各方面に配布し,国際的な計画を衆知することに務めた。とくに本年度はReport9〜15までと資料が多く,そのため印刷費の支出が増大した。班員は国際的な課題ごとに積極的に交流をはかり,国際対応を今後積極的に行うための基礎づくりに努力した。また国際課題ごとに国内の対応小委員会を設ける努力も行なった。
