上記の研究課題について、今年度の実施計画は次の3点であった。(1)日本の主要都市へのアメリカ軍の爆撃目的を確定すること。(2)原爆投下計画の詳細を解明すること。(3)京都の空襲にまつわる俗説を検討するため、R・ウォ-ナ-博士に関する史料の収集・整理に努めること。現在(3月中旬)の段階で遂行しえたのは次の点である。(1)については、戦略爆撃関係史料:Tactical Mission Reports(マイクロフィルム全6巻),Operations Reports and Statistical Summaries of the U.S.Army Air Force and Bomber Command in the Pacific(同3巻),U.S.Naval Air Narrative and Statistical Operations Summaries and Reports(同1巻)を収集・整理した。(2)については、原爆投下計画に関する極秘史料:Correspondece of the Manhattan Engineer District(マイクロフィルム全5巻)を収集・整理した。また、(3)については、俗説をふりまいた中心人物・矢代幸雄(美術評論家)に関する諸史料を収集した。国立国会図書館所蔵の上記諸史料の収集と整理とに多大な労力と時間とを要した為、研究実施計画は当初の予定よりやや遅延しているとはいえ、順次進んでおり、現在は原爆投下計画に関する史料の分析を進行中である。今後の研究の展開については、(1)戦略爆撃関係史料を分析し、原爆投下計画との関連を解明し、(2)京都の空襲にまつわる俗説を検討するための諸史料(CIE:民間情報教育局の文書や、京都空襲に関する京都市民へのヒアリングなど)の発掘・分析・解明を行なう。これらを実施した上で、1992(平成4)年には成果を図書としてまとめる予定である。なお、成果の一部は別記の論文として公表する計画である。以上のように、この研究課題が膨大な史料の収集と整理とに多大な労力と時間とを必要とするため、平成2年度に引きつづき平成3年度も、科学研究費補助金の申請を行なった。ご検討いただきたい。

The research and implementation plan is in progress. The analysis of historical materials related to the original explosion plan is now underway. Future research will focus on: (1) historical data analysis on the relationship between atomic bombs and atomic bomb drop plans;(2) historical data analysis on the development, analysis and explanation of Kyoto air strikes (CIE: Civil Information Education Bureau document, Kyoto air strikes related to Kyoto citizens). In 1992(Heisei 4), the book was published. A part of the results of the paper is recorded in the public table. The above research topics are expanded, historical materials are collected, time is needed, and applications for scientific research grants are made in 2002. In the middle of the night.
