わが国でもリ-スによる設備投資の比率は1割を超え、その重要性が高まりつつある。従来、リ-スに関する研究は、急速な技術進歩にともなう陳腐化への対策や節税手段という観点からなされてきた。本研究では、取引形態の変化としてのリ-スの普及が、製造業の競争に及ぼす影響という関連から、リ-スを分析した。リ-スという取引形態が製造業の競争に及ぼす影響については3つの視点から検討した。第一は、リ-スがメ-カ-の市場支配力を強くする反競争的な行為の一つであるという視点で、伝統的な産業組織論の立場からみたリ-スの分析である。第二は、内部組織の経済学からみたリ-スで、非対称な情報のもとで取引コストを節約するためにリ-スという取引が用いられるという考え方である。第三は、双方独占のモデルの応用で、メ-カ-とリ-ス会社が垂直的に統合した場合、両者が結合利潤の最大化をめざして反競争的にふるまう可能性があるという考えである。この3つの仮説にもとづいて、コンピュ-タと航空機のリ-スについて実際のリ-ス化が及ぼしている影響を分析した。コンピュ-タの場合、アメリカでは取引費用説と参入障壁説の間で論争があるが、日本ではむしろ垂直統合の傾向があることがわかった。航空機の場合、航空機という特殊な財の性格から取引費用説が妥当するという結論にいたった。モデル分析では、財の耐久性という点を明示的にあつかったモデルを今後考える計画である。また事例として自動車リ-スもとりあげる計画であったが、資料不足のため今回はできなかったが、今後これにも取り組みたい。
