Investigation on the Alternatives to Animal Experimentation in U. S. A.

We visited to Canada and U. S. A. and met Dr. J. Ikeda-Douglas and Rev. S. E. Pearson (Toronto University), Dr. G. Wallace and Mrs. J. Vinet (Mt. Sinai Hospital of Toronto), Drs. P. B. Car tet, C. McPherson and M. Levy and Mr. F. P. Ward, Jr. (North Carolina State University Veterinary School), Dr. P. Feeser (Duke University Primate Centu), Dr. W. S. Stokes (National Institute of Environmental Research), Drs. A. M. Goldberg and J. S. Poling (Johns Hopkins University School of Hygine), Dr. A. E. New (American Association for Accredation of Laboratory Animal Care), Mrs. K. S. Hoffman (North Carolina association for biomedical Research), Mr. J. Sylvester, Jr. (North Carolina Japan Center)and other many Canadian and American. And then, we debated about animal welfare movement, animal care committee or institutional animal care and use committee, protocol check system and inspection for animal facility. From the present investigation, we concluded that Japan should legislate protocol check system by animal care committee. The detail report of the premerit investigation will be published on a journal, ANITEX, Vol. 4, , No. 3 at May 1992.
