To investigate the present situation of the guidelines on animal experimentation in U.S.A. and Canada, and to collect informations on present and future aspects of replacement of laboratory animals in the above 2 countries for the purpose of raising the Japanese scientific and ethical standards of animal experimentation to the international level, we visited to Ottawa University, Duke University, NIH, Canadian Council for Animal Care and other 12 organizations, and obtained 73 references, e.g., guidelines and samples of protocal, vide tapes recoded over 20 hours and 40 rolls of color film. Detailed reports on the present investigation will be published on "Anitex", a Japanese journal for laboratory animal science and technology, within 6 months.

为了解美国和加拿大动物实验指南的现状，收集有关上述两国实验动物更替的现状和未来方面的信息，以期将日本动物实验的科学和伦理标准提高到国际水平，我们走访了渥太华大学、杜克大学、国立卫生研究院、加拿大动物保护委员会等12个组织，获得了73份参考文献，如指南和协议样本、录制了20多小时的录像带和40卷彩色胶片。关于本次调查的详细报告将在6个月内发表在日本实验动物科学与技术杂志《Anitex》上。
