仏教工芸品を体系的に分類するという本研究の目的達成のため、最終年度にあたる本年度は、昨年度に行った在銘作例の整理と銘文内容の検討を行った。調査は本年度も引き続き同様の方法で、約30点の、特に平安時代から鎌倉時代に至る密教関係の遺品を中心に行ったが、調査の過程で、中世以降の多くの資料にも接することができ、密教法具を中心とする関係遺品の中世以降の展開と、呼称の多様化の実態についての一端を知ることができた。各種の資財帳記載のいわゆる仏具と現存作例との同定を進める作業とその検討も継続したが、奈良時代の資財帳記載の遺品は法隆寺や東大寺の一部のものを除いて遺品が僅少であることも手伝って、必ずしも順調に進んだわけではなく今後の課題も残した。しかし平安以降の遺品については、過半数のものについて、文献記載事例の呼称や用途が明確にでき、現存遺品との同定も可能であった。一方、こうした成果は、その都度カード化して集積し、必要なデータについては、順次パソコン入力を進め、所期の目標である体系的分類への基礎となした。結果として、歴史的な変遷を踏まえての用途別分類は、八割方の完成を見た。なお、この用途別分類をいわゆる博物館・美術館をはじめとする研究機関で応用するには、広範囲で煩瑣な分類法より、美的観照の対象としての工芸作品の整理に資することが重要であると思考されるため、本研究の成果としてまとめた報告書では、特にこの点をも考慮して、実用に即するようにした。また用途別分類の他に、制作地別、時代別、技法別をも加えて広範囲からの検索に対応できるよう配慮した。
