極小曲面の安定性を調べるのに重要な第2変分から定まるヤコビ作用素の研究とかかわって以下の結果を得た。1、3次元リ-マン多様体が局所的に等質であるための条件を曲率テンソルを用いてあらわした。これはI、M、Singerが問題としていたところのものに対する3次元の場合の部分的解等を与えている。(大和一夫)2、Lie接触構造の中で特に共形多様体の接球束上の構造に対して正規接続を共形接続から具体的に構成した。(佐藤肇)3、ハミルトン系のホモクリニック軌道あるいは周期軌道の存在を変分を用いて研究した。モ-ス理論及び関数解析的な手法を用いることにより2〜3の存在定理を得た。(田中和永)4、解析的偏微分方程式のGevrey族空間での可解性を研究したものによって定まる様子を詳しく調べた。特に指数が非正の場合のGevrey族空間での可解性の研究が偏微分方程式において始めて取り扱われた。(三宅正武)5、領域の形状とそこの調和関数の境界挙動の関係を可積分性の観点から調べた。(鈴木紀明)6、有限な全曲率を持つ種数Oの3次元コ-クリッド空間の極小曲面のガウス写像からきまるシュレジンガ-作用素のO固有値に対応する固有関数の代数的な構成方法を与えた。これを使って種数Oの場合のヤコビ作用素のindexは一般にはガウス写像の写像度dを使って2dーlとなることがわかった。(江尻典雄)7、高全次元の場合の極小曲面のindexには単位法束上の解析が興味ある対象であり上の結果達と深い関係が期待される。
