International Joint Research on Spitsbergen IS Radar

国际联合研究项目是为了推动一组日本科学家与欧洲非相干散射科学协会（EISCAT）关于斯瓦尔巴雷达计划的国际合作。由欧洲6个国家（法国、芬兰、德国、挪威、瑞典和英国）组成的EISCAT科学协会已于1993年开始建造EISCAT斯瓦尔巴德雷达（ESR），日本预计将通过共享ESR的第二个天线来加入该计划。该雷达正在斯匹次卑尔根州朗伊尔城附近建设，其地理纬度约为80，地磁纬度约为75，适合研究太阳风、磁层、电离层和大气耦合的物理过程。1994年5月至6月期间，来自教育、科学和文化部、国家极地研究所和日地环境实验室所属的名古屋大学的日本代表访问了斯匹次卑尔根岛，对雷达场址进行调查，日本科学家参加了在EISCAT科学协会赞助下关于极地尖端地区的斯瓦尔巴群岛讲习班。日本- eiscat专题讨论会于1994年8月31日至9月3日在日本多巴举行，参加者有16人来自欧洲，1人来自美国，42人来自日本。研讨会的主要议题涉及斯瓦尔巴雷达项目。这种合作在1994年又向前迈出了一步。

The international joint research project is provided to make progress the international collaboration between a group of Japanese scientists and the EISCAT (European Incoherent Scatter) Scientific Association concerning with the Svalbard radar program. The EISCAT Scientific Association joined by European six countries (France, Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and United Kingdom) has started construction of the EISCAT Svalbard radar(ESR) in 1993 and Japan is expected to join the program by sharing construction of the second antenna of the ESR.The radar is under construction at the site near Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen and the radar site at the geographic latitude of about 80ﾟ and at the geomagnetic latitude of about 75ﾟ is suitably located for the research on the physical processes of the coupling among the solar wind, magnetosphere, ionosphere and atmosphere.During May to June 1994, Japanese delegates from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, the National Institute of Polar Research, and the Nagoya University to which the Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory belongs, visited Spitsbergen for investigation of the radar site, and Japanese scientists attended the Svalbard Workshop on the polar cusp region under sponsorship of the EISCAT Scientific Association. The Japan-EISCAT Symposium was held at Toba, Japan on 31 August-3 September 1994 with the participants of 16 from Europe, 1 from USA and 42 from Japan. The major topics of the symposium concerned about the Svalbard radar project. The collaboration has made a further step forward during 1994.
