話し手と聞き手が伝達内容を相互に理解するためには、文内部の構造に関する知識だけでなく、文脈・環境に適したことばの使用や文間関係、文脈からの把握といったことが要求される。従って障害児のことばの問題に関しても、文とそれを取り巻く環境との関係についての知識を扱う必要がある。そこでこうした観点から聴覚障害者の文脈把握に必要な知識の習得への接近を試みた。文脈把握のために必要な知識は種々考えられるが、本研究では「会話における語の省略」を取り上げた。一般に会話の中では語の省略が多く見られ、円滑なコミュニケーションを図るためには省略されている事柄の理解が必須となるからである。会話における語の省略傾向を探るための方法として、今回は健聴者同士、聴覚障害者同士の会話場面をビデオ収録により収集し、転記したものの談話分析を試みた。分析の結果、健聴者の会話では、その談話の主題すなわち「何について話されているか」という事柄が明白なときには主題を表わす語句は省略される傾向が見られた。また主題が新たに設定されたり変更されたりする場合には文中に明示され、「〜のことだけど」といったタイプの句や疑問文等も主題を表わす手段として用いられていることがわかった。聴覚障害者の会話の場合、主題が変更される場合でもそれが明示されない場合がわずかに見受けられたが、基本的には上述の健聴者の会話に見られた傾向と同様であった。本年度は健聴者及び聴覚障害者の会話における語の省略傾向を明らかにする段階にとどまった。そこで次には「談話の主題」に代表される文中において省略されている事柄の理解、あるいは含意されている事柄の理解について、。発達的観点からの検討を試みる必要があるだろう。
