本研究の目的は、言語発達遅滞児(「通級による指導」において指導対象とされている、「話す、聞く等言語機能の基礎的事項に発達の遅れがある者」に該当する児童)の談話理解に関して、その評価及び指導法の構築を目指すものであった。前年度は、言語発達遅滞児と教師の会話場面及び、教師による対象児とのコミュニケーションの印象的評価を収集した。今年度は、それらの検討を通して談話理解の評価の観点を整理した上で、各地の言語障害通級指導教室において事例ごとに談話理解の様相を調査した。言語発達遅滞児は、語彙力、構文力等が年齢的にみて不十分な状態にある子どもであり、このこと自体も談話理解のつまずきの一因と考えられた。しかし、前後の関連(文間関係)や話者との関係等も、談話理解を支える重要な要素であることがうかがわれた。従って、語彙力、構文力といった比較的評価しやすい側面のみでは、言語発達遅滞児の談話理解の問題を考える上では不十分であると考えられた。具体的には、話者の意図、語の省略、含意といったことの把握、あるいは話題に関する話者との共感の程度等である。今後は、これらの側面を評価する場合の指標の作成、そしてその指標をテスト場面だけでなく、実際の会話の中に適用できるものとすることが課題である。いわゆる語用論的な能力の発達を調べるテストは各研究者レベルで考案されてはいるが、多くは書記言語における文理解についてのものであり、談話レベルでの実用化を検討していくことも今後の課題に向けて着手すべき事項と考えている。同時に、本研究で得た資料をもとに、談話理解力を高めるための個別支援プログラムの具現化にも取り組む予定である。
