1.本研究では、昭和戦前・戦中期、昭和30年前後、現在の三時点をとって、それぞれ新聞および教育関係の雑誌における体罰事件の報道を、さまざまな発言者や寄稿者の属性を区別しながら検討するという方法で、言説空間の構造変容の実証的な分析を試みた。現在の体罰問題に関して、現職教員からの聞き取り調査を行なった。2.本研究によって明らかになってきたのは、体罰に関する法的な枠組みと、教師や親・マスコミ等の議論の焦点との間に大きなズレが存在し続けているということである。体罰事件をめぐる言説の構造は、昭和戦前・戦中期、昭和30年前後、現在の三時点で全く異なった様相を示していた。しかし、刑事的な事件というよりも、〈教育問題〉とみなして妥当な解決策や望ましい方向が論じられていたという点で、基本的には共通性を持っていた。それぞれの時期の新聞記事や雑誌記事が、体罰を肯定する立場のものはもちろんのこと、体罰を否定する立場のものも含めて、事件を〈教育に固有の問題性を持った事象〉という描き方をしていたからである。3.しかしながら、本研究では、とりあげた三時点のそれぞれの言説構造の特徴を明確化するには至らなかった。というのも、三時点の言説構造の差異は、それぞれの時期の、親や教師が持つ規範意識や教育に関する前理論的な仮説--子ども観や教育観、教師の役割に関するイメージ等--を反映しており、それらについて未解明な点が多いからである。この点についての検討を進め、言説空間の背後に存在する自明化された諸前提を抽出・整理することで、体罰言説の変容が意味するものを明らかにすることが、今後の課題である。
