To meet the need for deeper collaborative efforts on human disease genes, genome structure of model organisms, genome informatics, two French scientists, Drs.P.Bouvagnet and J.Thierry-Mieg were added to the member's list. Both of them came to Japan for collaborative researches.Based upon agreement between Matsubara and Dr.F.Galibert at CNRS,special efforts have been made to promote collaborative activities that include such researchers as Sakaki, Ohki, Fujiyama (human genome structure), Yoshikawa, Ogasawara, Murakami, Ito (microbial genome structure), Takagi (genome informatics), Matsubara (cDNA). Matsuda (Research collaborator) visited Pasteur Institute and CNRS Montpellier to carry out collaboration on human immunoglobulin gene. Exchanges of young researchers were also actively promoted. French scientists who came to Japan for collaboration included P.Bouvagnet, P.Slonimski, A.Danchin, J.Thierry-Mieg.On December 1997, Matsubara, Fujiyama, along with Wakasugi (Research collaborator) visited Paris and dislcussed with Drs.Samarut (CNRS Life Science Director) and Galibert (do., Vice director), summarizing achievements in these three years and exchanged ideas on future perpectives. As a result, the following consensus was obtrained. (1) This collaboration program has greatly helped mutual understanding, generating reliable and deep interactions among the participants, and as a result several new collaborative efforts have been initiated. (2) Ongoing collaborative researchers should be enforced. (3) Supports for exchanges should be sought for futhersing mutual understanding and stimulations ; especially encouraging exchange of young researchers for better interactions for the future.The resume of the three years' activities will be published in an well-circulated international journal.
