This study aims to introduce stochastic response analyzes and reliability analyzes of uncertain structures taking account of uncertainties in structural systems and seismic excitations and to establish a rational aseismic design of building structures. The important uncertain parameters in modeling structural systems and seismic excitations are investigated, and they are modeled as random variables. The analytical methods for stochastic identification of structural parameters and stochastic estimation of structural responses from observations of seismic accelerations on ground-structures were presented. The analytical forms of approximate probability density functions with respect ot structural damages were introduced by modeling of uncertain parameters in failure criteria. The efficiency of these approximate probability density functions are verified from Monte Carlo simulations. The method for evaluating the reliability function of the whole structural system and those of structural components were presented by making use of the response surface method and central composite design method. And the proposed method has advantage of reducing computational efforts required in the Monte Carlo simulation techniques. In the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster, a large number of buildings and houses were seriously damaged. The seismic damages of wood houses and reinforced concrete structures were investigated. There are many uncertainties in structures, in particular, wood houses. Therefore the observation and experimental studies on uncertainties of dynamic properties were carried out.
