Our study aims at making clear the old strata of Tokyo accents and at inquiring into the process of their formation.For this purpose, we examined the accents of several thousands words of the aged, choosing three areas around Tokyo : Akiruno City in Tokyo, Chichibu City in Saitama Prefecture and Fujioka City in Gumma Prefecture. We chose the everyday words spoken frequently in which we observed the generational difference in accent patterns in Tokyo and the words which are supposed to have around Tokyo the accents different from those in the center of Tokyo, out of "Materials of the accents of the Tokyo dialect" compiled under the supervision of Takeshi Shibata, edited by Yoshio Mase and Ryoichi Sato.In result, we found in these areas a lot of words which have the old accent patterns disappeared and disappearing in the center of Tokyo.We also found a good many words that have the accent patterns peculier to these areas and that we do not observe in the Tokyo dialect.We put to presse the result and the consideration as an investigation report.
