異文化教育に関する欧米の研究資料を収集整理し、その基礎資料を教育価値論、教育内容論、教育方法論の三相に区分した。とくに教育方法論の相では、学習共同体の形成理論を中心に、学習援助の理論的フレイムワークを構想した。臨床研究では、異文化葛藤の激しい対象児童を限定した学習援助のストラテジーと、異文化葛藤を内包する学習共同体を対象にした学習援助のストラテジーをクロスさせた方略地図を構想した。以上の研究に基づき、国語(日本語の文学教材)および理科(物理学分野の教材)を中心にした授業をVTRに記録し、対象児童および対象学習共同体のケースカンファレンスを重ねた。その際とくに対象児童と学習共同体との交渉過程を焦点化し、発話の誘発要因や文化的実践への参加の要因を分析した。異文化葛藤を克服し、異文化共生を体験するためには、主体の“声"と“声"のアリ-ナ(その境界のモメントを含めて)を解析することと、文化として捉えなおされた教科内容への共同参加の実現という視角から分析することが有効であつた。その成果は、中国四国教育学会において広島大学附属小学校との共同研究「音楽教育における談話分析」などで検証したほか、拙著『学びのファンタジア-「臨床教育学」のあたらしい地平へ』(溪水社)に集約した。
